The hit Broadway musical, Wicked finally has arrived in Brisbane.  I’m not seeing it until March and I can’t wait.

I heard a rock version of Defying Gravity from Kerry Ellis with Brian May from Queen on guitar.  The arrangement is awesome and Kerry can sing.  Oh boy can she sing!

I tried to download it via iTunes but it isn’t available in the Aussie iTunes store and as I refuse to download illegally the only way I can get to listen to it is via Youtube.  That sucks!

Here it is.  Have a listen.  It will rock your socks off!

Like it and game to sing it yourself.  Here is the instrumental version.  Lyrics below.

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I’m through with playing by
The rules of someone else’s game
Too late for second guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It’s time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap

It’s time to try defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye, I’m defying gravity
And you can’t bring me down

I’m through accepting limits
Cos someone says they’re so
Some things I cannot change
But til I try I’ll never know
Too long I’ve been afraid of
Losing love I guess I’ve lost
Well if that’s love it comes at
Much too high a cost

I’d sooner buy defying gravity
I’m way up high, I’m defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye, I’m defying gravity
And you won’t bring me down

My future is unlimited
And I just had a vision
Almost like a prophecy
I know
It sounds truly crazy
And, true, the vision’s hazy
But I can see it
I can feel it
I swear I’ll be so high
yeah yeah

So if you care to find me
Look to the western sky
As someone told me lately
Everyone deserves a chance to fly
And if I’m flying solo
At least I’m flying free
To those who ground me
Take a message back from me
ah yeah

It’s time to try defying gravity
I’m way up high, I’m defying gravity
Kiss me goodbye, I’m defying gravity
And you won’t bring me
You won’t bring me down

Best. Song. Ever!! I’ve seen Wicked twice, in Melbourne with one son, in Sydney with t’other son. Just love it!! hugs, sing loud!

  2. Patycam says:

Loved it, just showed hubby. Love the ending where she gasps at her own power. Totally nailed it! *happy sighs. x

Oh to be able to sing like that! Have you tried the instrumental version? I just did. My throat is on fire and the police just came by via a neighbours noise complaint!

  3. Patycam says:

I DO sing like that, in my head 😦 lol. You’ll love seeing it on stage, and our Aussie production is tops, better staging, lighting and production than the others.
