It’s been 4 years since I last really applied myself to a fitness and nutrition regimen. Sure, since then I’ve done spurts for weeks at a time and have had varied results but for lots of different reasons (excuses) I haven’t maintained it to hit the ultimate weight goal.
When I lost 46 kg from December 2008 to April 2009, I did it because I was trying to win a competition and was part of a group of 20 people who I was competing against. I wanted to be the biggest loser. I came 5th from memory and truth be told, I probably didn’t try as hard as I could have.
The reason I was able to lose 46kg was the goal. The goal was tangible. It was something I could actually foresee. It wasn’t a weight goal or a look goal, it was an event goal. I wanted to attend this event. I also wanted to win the competition.
So I tried hard. I competed.
I’ve always been a sports lover and I’ve always been competitive. Play me in squash and I will never give up until the game is over. If there is one more point to win, I will strive to win that point. While there is breath in my body, I will strive to win that point.
I enjoy sports. I much prefer sports because to me, sport is playing. I love playing sports. When you go to the gym, you don’t play. It’s not fun. Well for me it isn’t. I enjoy the social aspects at my gym but if I am exercising at the gym, it’s because I have to, not because I want to.
So I need a new goal. Not a weight or look goal, but an event goal and I think I have found that event.
My first full time job out of school was in the army when I joined up as a 17 year old and went to Kapooka for basic training. I excelled at the physical side of the training. I was very fit when I joined the army and hence the reason I excelled. I loved doing the obstacle courses particularly.
It was just like in all of the movies.
So the event I have found is Tough Mudder. There are other versions like True Grit and I will probably do that one too but their next event is in July which I think is too soon, so for now, Tough Mudder is my calling.

Tough Mudder will be held in Queensland on 17-18 August, 2013 on the Sunshine Coast.
That’s only 4 months away.
I better get moving.
But I don’t want to do it on my own. Who’s with me? Who is going to support me? Because by supporting me, you are helping to save my life. Who wants to be a live saver? Who wants to attend the Tough Mudder with me in August? Together, we can do it.
